The Deacons of Bethany Baptist Church are here to serve you. Please feel free to contact any of them regarding your needs.

Richard Morris:

Ordained as a Deacon on November 6, 2016, Richard is a lifelong resident of Spotsylvania County who works for a local family business. His work allows him to meet new people daily and share his faith, which Richard loves to do. He further ministers with his lovely wife Ramona by singing uplifting gospel music all around the central Virginia area. They have shared this music ministry for over 25 years. Richard has three children, the youngest of whom will be graduating from high school soon. Richard's church ties are strong: he met Ramona in church, he grew up in the church, and participated in choir & Royal Ambassadors. His family has generational ties to Bethany Baptist, and it is an honor to have Richard as a Deacon here. He loves the strong fellowship at Bethany and is greatly looking forward to his ministry in the Deacon body.

Bobby Edenton:

Bobby has been at Bethany his entire life, and has been an ordained Deacon since the early 1980s. Bobby grew up in the Arcadia area very near the church and is a retired truck driver. He is extremely active in many facets of Bethany including the choir. Bobby loves to sing and play guitar, and regularly ministers in this way to local nursing homes. Bobby is married to Debbie and he has two adult children (Kim and Jonathan), along with two grandsons.

Sammy Harlow:
Sammy Harlow was ordained as a Deacon at Bethany in October 2015. Sammy is a long time resident of Thornburg and has attended Bethany for many years. Being retired, Sammy is active in many of the activities involving our seniors at Bethany. His gentle personality and easy-going manner, along with his love for the Lord, make him greatly loved by all members of the church. Sammy's immediate family includes his daughter Brenda and grandson James.
Bobby Orrock:
Bobby is one of the most widely recognized members of the Bethany Deacon body. Maybe its because he and his family go back many generations and have always been active members. Or maybe its because he teaches at Spotsylvania High School and so many people have been touched by him there. Or could it be his familiar voice on Sunday mornings on the radio, hosting "The Gospel Show"? Or maybe the fact that he's an elected member of the Virginia House Of Delegates, representing parts of Caroline and Spotsylvania Counties. At Bethany, we just think he's a loved and treasured guy! Bobby is currently the chairman of the Bethany Deacons.
Matt Faulconer:
Matt has been a member of Bethany since 1986, and has been an ordained Deacon since 1988. Matt is an "electric" man, being employed by Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. He enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities and helps out with all kinds of things that keep Bethany's physical structure in good working order. He is also heavily involved with the Baptist Mens ministry. Matt and his wife Lora (also a Deacon at Bethany) have a son Aaron and a granddaughter Khloe Grace.
Nelson Reid:
Nelson has been a part of Bethany for a long time. Nelson was ordained as a Deacon in 1992, and has faithfully served the church in many roles over the years. He is known around the church as the "water man", since he worked for the county Sewer & Water Authority for many years until his retirement a few years ago. Nelson is married to Judy, who is also a current Bethany Deacon. They have two adult daughters and some wonderful grandchildren.
Lora Faulconer:
Lora was one of the first women to serve as a Deacon at Bethany, and has served several terms. Lora is constantly involved in missionary and outreach activities. Whether its helping prepare food baskets for shut-ins or coordinating the Christmas collection of dolls, bears, stockings, coats, and toys in conjunction with the Salvation Army, Lora is a visible reminder of the presence of Christ among us. Lora is married to one of our other Deacons Matt, and they have one son Aaron and one granddaughter Khloe Grace. Out of church, you may run into Lora at one of the local antique shops or craft shows, as these are also her passions.
 Judy Reid:
Judy is another one of the first women to serve as a Deacon at Bethany. Judy has served in many capacities through the years as a teacher and leader at Bethany, and she is always there to greet you with a big smile. Judy has driven a school bus for Spotsylvania County for many, many years, and absolutely adores animals (except for snakes). Talk to Judy about dogs or horses and you likely will be talking for a long time. Judy is a great asset to the Bethany Deacon body.
Debra Shelton:
Debra is from the small town of Gretna Virginia, and moved to Spotsylvania in 1995.  She has been attending Bethany for about 10 years and was ordained as a Deacon on November 6, 2016. Debra is an RN who currently works as a school nurse. You can't miss Debra's big smile and willingness to help with just about anything at church. She has recently rejuvenated the children's ministry and Vacation Bible School at Bethany and is an integral part of the ministry here.  Debra's life Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 and her mantra is "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain!"
